The Calanques de Piana are a succession of red and pink granite cliffs sculpted over millions of years by erosion, plunging vertically into an intensely blue sea. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Scandola, they are one of the most spectacular landscapes in the entire Mediterranean.

- 8am-9am: board at Sagone port for a full-day excursion
- Morning: sail towards Scandola, stop in Girolata, pass by Capo Rosso
- Afternoon: sail along the Calanques de Piana from the sea - absolutely spectacular
- Late afternoon: return to Sagone port with the calanques in the sunset light
- 8am: leave Sagone by car via the D81 towards Cargese then Porto
- 8h45: arrive in Piana - coffee on a terrace with gulf views
- 9h30: Chateau Fort trail (1h30 return) or walk down to Ficajola beach
- 12pm: lunch in the village of Piana or picnic facing the sea
- 2pm: scenic D81 road - photo stops at marked viewpoints
- 4pm: return to Sagone, even more beautiful in the afternoon light
- The D81 through the calanques is very narrow - passing large vehicles is difficult
- Never park in the middle of the road, even to take photos
- Use only the marked car parks - there are few, so arrive early
- Allow 45 minutes from Sagone via the D81 towards Cargese then Porto

Height: Capo Rosso reaches 331m with 400m vertical cliffs above the sea.
Age of rocks: the red porphyry is approximately 250 million years old - among the oldest volcanic rock in Corsica.
UNESCO: listed in 1983 as part of the mixed site "Gulf of Porto: Calanche of Piana, Gulf of Girolata, Scandola Reserve".
